Coastal Protection Works at Seaton Hole

Starting Late August

Seaton Chamber, as part of a group of local stakeholders, has been actively involved in discussions around the upcoming £1.4 million Coastal Protection Scheme to safeguard Seaton Hole Cliffs and nearby homes.

This vital work, led by East Devon District Council in partnership with South West Flood and Coastal Group, is essential to protect the coastline and 41 properties, including a care home.

What's Happening?

  • New rock armour will be installed at the base of the cliffs
  • Existing gabions (wire baskets filled with stone) will be repaired or removed
  • Essential repairs will be carried out to the Check House seawall
  • Up to 7,000 tonnes of Cornish rock will be delivered by sea from 9 September, timed with high tides

The contractor, J.T. Mackley & Co Ltd, will begin setting up from 26 August, using the area next to Seaton Jurassic Long Stay Car Park as a temporary compound for equipment and materials.

Temporary closures of parts of Seaton Hole beach will be necessary for safety during deliveries and works, but the beach will be reopened whenever possible.

Local businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the project.

Seaton Chamber has worked to ensure the views of local businesses and residents are heard, with every effort made to minimise disruption and keep the town welcoming for visitors during these necessary works.

We’ll continue to share updates as the project progresses. Thank you for your continued support.
