From these inspiring nominations, we’ve created a shortlist of finalists. Now it’s time to have your say – vote for your favourite and help us celebrate a local legend!

1. John Widger

A long-standing and much-loved resident of Seaton, widely admired for his tireless dedication to keeping the town vibrant and beautiful through his stunning floral displays. Year after year, he grows, plants, and meticulously maintains flowers across the town, including the playgrounds and beach areas, often starting at the crack of dawn to water and care for them. His creativity, attention to detail, and passion for horticulture have transformed Seaton’s public spaces, bringing colour and joy to both locals and visitors. Even through personal hardship, John has continued his work with unwavering commitment, making him a true community superstar and a worthy nominee for recognition.

2. Aileen Heal

A remarkable and tireless member of the Seaton community, known for her dedication to a wide range of initiatives that benefit others. She founded and runs both the Seaton Food Larder and the Repair Café, helping reduce food waste, promote sustainability, and support those in need. Beyond this, she is actively involved in Seaton parkrun, Axe Valley Runners, walking groups, charity events, and mental health advocacy. Always ready to offer guidance, adopt pets in need, or support new runners, Aileen continues to give selflessly despite facing her own health challenges. Her kindness, leadership, and community spirit make her a truly deserving nominee.

3. Mel Barrand

A dedicated and selfless member of the Seaton community who works tirelessly to support Seaton Primary School’s PTFA, fundraising year after year to improve the education and lives of local children. Often working behind the scenes, her efforts frequently go unrecognised despite their immeasurable value. As a busy mum of four, she still finds time to use her business to support local causes and raise money for charity, making her a truly deserving nominee.

4. Ann Roberts

A lifelong resident of Seaton who has devoted decades to supporting the community through tireless charity work and volunteering. Deeply involved with St. Gregory’s Church, the RNLI, and the Royal British Legion, she also contributes to local events, sings in the church choir, rings the bells, arranges flowers, and even takes part in the Carnival procession. Whether manning stalls, fundraising, or helping behind the scenes, Ann’s dedication and kindness are unwavering. Now in her 80s, she continues to give her time and energy selflessly, making her a truly invaluable and inspiring member of the community.

5. Rita Hallett

Seaton’s beloved lollipop lady and has dedicated over 30 years to keeping generations of children safe on their way to school, come rain or shine. Also a long-serving dinner lady, she is known for her constant smile, kindness, and incredible ability to remember names, making every child feel special. Her warmth, dedication, and decades of service make her a truly treasured and inspiring figure in the community.

6. Mandy Saunders

A dedicated and selfless volunteer who has made a huge impact on the Seaton community through her work at The Gateway, where she started and has run the popular Tea and Chat mornings for the past two years. These events offer vital social opportunities for vulnerable and lonely individuals, care home residents, and the wider community. In addition to organising quizzes and entertainment, she has tirelessly fundraised for The Gateway and the URC church hall roof, supported children’s reading at Restore, and volunteered during the Covid-19 pandemic. Always putting others first, she truly deserves recognition for her outstanding service.
